Theory Venture Capital is a technology-focused venture capital firm that has raised $235 million in its first fund. Theory invests in early stage technology companies with a concentrated portfolio. The team consists of five professionals with extensive experience across Google, Palantir, & leading venture capital firms. As the company continues to grow, it plans to have its main office in San Francisco but will also offer remote work options.

Job Descr¡iption

The Vice President of Finance will be responsible for managing various aspects of the finance department, including outsourced management company accounting, audit, conducting quarterly valuations, managing the accounts payable and payroll, capital call management, supporting fundraises including operational due diligence and LP communication, portfolio company metrics gathering, and reporting. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for modeling portfolios as well.

Key Responsibilities

-  Manage the ongoing financials of the firm including AP, budgeting & planning, & payroll.

-  Manage the outsourced management company accounting, including financial statements, tax compliance, and regulatory reporting.

-  Manage the firm’s annual audit and ensure that it is in compliance with the fund's investment agreements and regulations.

-  Manage capital call processes

-  Support fundraises by assisting operational due diligence on potential investments and communicating with Limited Partners (LPs) regarding requests for information.

-  Gather and report portfolio company metrics, including financial performance, growth rates, and other key indicators. Use these to perform quarterly valuations.

-  Develop and maintain financial models to support decision-making and forecasting activities.

-  Manage the firm’s compliance process

Requirements:

-  Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

-  Minimum of 5 years of experience in venture capital or private equity finance, with a focus on fund structures and management company accounting.

-  Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

-  Experience working with GP, LP entities, and management company structures.

-  Comfortable with modeling portfolios and conducting financial analysis.

-  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

-  Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
