Village Enterprise’s mission is to end extreme poverty through innovation and entrepreneurship. By the end of 2019, Village Enterprise will have impacted the lives of one million people living in extreme poverty in East Africa. Village Enterprise’s new strategy focuses on ‘scale and impact’, and the organization has ambitious goals in both areas. Village Enterprise intends to impact the lives of 20 million people living in extreme poverty by 2030. To support this growth, we plan to significantly increase our major gift fundraising efforts as a means of achieving our ambitious revenue goals.
Village Enterprise’s Director of Development will join a passionate and dedicated team. As a member of our Development Team you will manage the creation and implementation of Village Enterprise’s major gifts fundraising strategy focused on individual giving.
Work with the Chief Development Officer and Board Development Committee to design and execute fundraising initiatives targeting major gifts from individuals, including multi-year campaigns and annual giving
Manage a portfolio of high-potential medium, major, and leadership donors and prospects with a focus on securing gifts and pledges of $5,000 or more, while also leading fundraising campaigns to generate smaller individual gifts. Experience with is a Salesforce a plus.
Develop annual and long-term growth plans for individual donation revenue consistent with Village Enterprise’s strategic plan. Assess the success of fundraising strategies and provide clear, concise reports on results against Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Develop and implement stewardship activities aimed at cultivating deeper ties with donors
Lead in the planning and execution of donor-focused events including our annual Donor Appreciation event and donor activities planned around visiting field staff
In collaboration with the Board Development Committee, strategically engage board members, and other VE advocates in prospect identification, cultivation and solicitation
Oversee and grow our planned giving program
Represent our organization at high-potential networking opportunities to meet prospects and promote Village Enterprise
Develop new strategies to identify and cultivate relationships with philanthropy advisors (DAFs), mega-charities and “below the radar” family foundations
5+ years of experience in non-profit fundraising, specifically major gift fundraising
2+ years of management level experience
Excellent interpersonal and writing skills
Be a “self-starter” and with goal driven focus
Superior organizational skills and “follow through” on designated tasks
Desire, drive and ability to be an ambassador for the mission and work of Village Enterprise
Display a positive attitude, show concern for people and community, demonstrate presence, self-confidence, common sense and a good listening ability
Act as a collaborative team player at all times
Demonstrate a passion for innovative approaches to poverty reduction around the world, including but not limited to social entrepreneurship and business development in Africa
