DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS
The Director of Communications is responsible for articulating and promoting the unique mission, pedagogy, and program of The Nueva School to internal and external constituents. With more than 50 years of experience teaching gifted learners, Nueva spans two campuses to serve students in PreK through 12th grade. The Director of Communications manages a talented team to lead all communication efforts, including website management, publications, social media, faculty and staff communications, and marketing. This role requires a strategic self-starter who thrives in a highly collaborative environment.
Serve as a steward for the school’s strategic messaging and brand identity.
Implement and evolve the communications strategy and yearly tactical communications plan.
Create an inspiring team environment and develop staff with clear professional goals and objectives, and provide training and counsel on a consistent basis.
Collaborate with key departments and stakeholders to ensure marketing and communications projects are executed efficiently and meet stated goals.
Maintain a strategic presence for Head of School, Division Heads, the Board of Trustees and other leaders as it relates to communication issues
Understand key audiences (e.g., parents, prospective families, faculty and staff, etc.) and ensure ongoing strategic communications and channel development
Ensure communications policies and processes are in place and evolve to build efficiencies across the organization.
Oversee content strategy that delivers compelling storytelling across all channels
Solicit input from stakeholders on major initiatives, manage data collection, and evaluate tactics in support of communications plans and goals.
Provide crisis communications support as needed, including the utilization/management of the rapid notification system, and serve as spokesperson in times of crisis as appropriate.
Manage all proactive and reactive media opportunities, including print, online, TV, and radio.
Manage the department budget and implement a system for tracking expenses.
Bachelor degree required and relevant advanced degree preferred
8-10 years experience in communications and/or marketing
Proven experience with internal communication/employee and staff engagement
Excellent writer/editor with a passion and understanding for storytelling across formats and channels
Strong public relations and crisis communication skills
Proven leadership in managing teams, including goal setting and professional development
Demonstrated planning and project management skills
Ability to collaborate across departments and experience with stakeholder engagement (i.e. colleagues, parents, students, alumni, donors, partners, and volunteers)
Interest in education broadly; understanding of independent schools/college environment preferred
Familiarity with current software, digital and social media platforms
Marketing experience and skills preferred
Personable, positive, helpful personality; customer service mindset
Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills.
Ability to manage competing demands, and adapt to frequent or unexpected changes.
Demonstrated ability to use good judgment and maintain confidentiality.
