Communications Manager Reports to: CEO
Hours: 40 hours per week

Able Works is a faith informed, non-profit organization based in East Palo Alto, CA. Our vision is to live in a society where every individual has the ability to fulfill their greatest human potential. Our mission is to equip individuals with financial education, life skills and assets that enable one to live free from oppression and poverty. We are in a growth trajectory with local and regional expansion plans for our core programs, FutureProfits, a financial education and life skills program for high school students; and LiveAble, a cohort-based financial education and peer support program for female heads of household ages 18 – 30.
The Communications and Events Manager works closely with the Development Campaign Manager and CEO to support the communications and fund development of Able Works. The primary goal of this role is to ensure that the organization is well funded through all appropriate communications platforms and modes and that its vision is effectively communicated to the outside world. The Communications and Events Manager will also be the primary driver behind Able Work’s annual advocacy event, Able:Forum. This role supports the Development team, CEO, Board of Directors and Advancement Council in fund raising activities including but not limited to donor solicitation, grant writing/reporting and others.
Execute organization’s communications strategy, including donor engagement and acquisition of mid-level donors
Draft and disseminate monthly e-newsletter via Mailchimp; maintain audience data
Curate social media outlets, primarily Facebook and Twitter, including video content generation
Collaborate with Development team, CEO and others to craft organizations mailings, including annual report, mid-year report, and 2 mail appeals.
Generate and manage website content via Wordpress
Be primary storyteller and developer of content for website, messaging and events, including blog posts, social media posts, reports and letters
Prepare and research briefings for CEO and Development team on emerging issues that are relevant to the organization's mission and develop strategic response
Manage printing of business cards, envelopes and/or print collateral; replenish as necessary
Prepare and update materials for annual fund/development campaigns
Events/Outreach and Other
Represent Able Works at events and outreaches; manage and track outreach materials
Conceptualize, plan, project manage and execute annual Able:Forum and accompanying events
○ Development of message and theme
○ Craft marketing/outreach plan for event
○ Day-of coordination
○ All other event logistics, including: venue, vendors, attendee/donor follow up
In order to communicate organization’s mission and vision or support fund development efforts, serve as primary organizational contact for small events and outreaches with donors, community partners/churches; coordinate, execute and track these events
Assist with grant reporting as necessary, and occasionally, grant writing and research
Assist the budget planning for the next fiscal year
Other duties as required
Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience
Approximately 5 years experience in communications or advocacy field
Superior understanding of current marketing communications and media channels,
including: WordPress, Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin, Snapchat, Mailchimp and others
Intermediate graphic design skills (Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop) and video editing skills
(iMovie, Final Cut Pro)
Experience in photography, design, video and creative work
Knowledge and experience with CRM, in particular Salesforce
Excellent communication skills, written and oral
Ability to represent Able Works at public events
